They are one of the last hunters on our planet that hunt in a traditional way not only whales but also dolphins and mantas. For centuries now, they have been going out on old wooden boats to fight unmerciful battles for life and death with the gigantic sperm whales using bamboo harpoons. It is not always a victorious battle.

It has scared and thrilled us from time immemorial. Among its greatest (and unconditional) admirers belongs Steve Loveček Lichtag. He didn’t hesitate when he got an opportunity to form a top filming and diving team. During one year a unique document about “the great white” was being created off the South African coast. This was the first time that the film-makers dared to come close to this spine-chilling object of their interest without any protective equipment. A film was made, hundreds of photos were taken and this book was created. Lichtag depicts his journey of his life’s dream from the first idea to the culmination of his African adventure. Arrestingly and originally, Steve introduces the readers to team members and the techniques of submarine filming work; but mainly to the climax of his effort, which were many meetings with the most dangerous underwater predator.
